[DONATE] Be a Hero and Donate Blood at MBO Cinemas

Did you know that by donating blood, you are actually savings lives of people who needs it in order to survive. Usually blood that has been donated would be used to treat patients who are going through surgery, anaemia, who has cancer clood disorders and more. I never really noticed how important it is to donate blood, but believe me when i say that the blood you donate would be used to good use to save lives of people who would have died without your help. I mean think about it, you can actually be considered a hero to many.

In a week or so, MBO will be joining hands with St John's Ambulance Malaysia and the National Blood Bank for their annual blood donation campaign which would be held at MBO Cinemas nationwide from 4th to 6th August 2017. This year, featuring its Superhero theme Campaign, they aim to attact at least 5,000 donors to help top up the depleting blood supply at the national Blood Band which runs low after recent fasting month and Hari raya celebrations. Within the past three years, the campaign has successfully collected close to 10,000 pints of blood and MBO counts on customers and fans to make this achievement once again possible. Did you know that each pint of blood can save up to three lives?

Be a part of the heroes this coming weekend!

MBO is reaching out to moviegoers and their family members, friends and colleagues to come together for this years campaign and 'be heroes' by just donating blood at an MBO Cinema nearest to you. Being a hero does takes courage, but of course to be a hero is to overcome your fear of blood and needles, especially when youre a first time donor. GAIS, chill, even i've never donated blood but i think its about time i save lives. And trust me when im as afraid as you are too if youre a first timer as well.

And if you have been donating blood regularly, i would like to take this opportunity for you to share with your fellow friends the importance of giving blood so that the blood stock can be kept at sufficient levels before an emergency arises. Did you know that only 2.2% out of 3 million Malaysians donate blood when other countries are within the average of 3.5% to 5% out of their population? COMMON GUYS! Lets bring those numbers up, for our people and of course for the lives of our people.

Follow Me | Buy and Donate Campaign 2016

Follow Me, a brand under Tohtonku Sdn Bhd has launched the Follow Me Buy & Donate Campaign 2016 that is currently ongoing from 20 October 2016 until 30 November 2016 to help raise funds for Rumah Caring Old Folks Home. Located in Kajang, Selangor, this non-profit old folks home, caters not only to citizens aged between 50 years to 95 years, but it also shelters wheel chair bound old folks who require special needs and attention.

According to Wendy Yap, Founder of Persatuan Rumah Caring Kajang, the home has been grappling with the rising cost of operations and provisions in the last few years. Apart from the daily basic household needs, nursing service and cost of health supplies are also increasing.

“The average cost of running the home is about RM14,000 a month. We are left feeling helpless at times without financial aid. Therefore, we are really grateful to receive donations from corporate and individual donors,” said founder, Wendy Yap. Through this campaign, Follow Me hopes to raise funds through the sale of any of its Follow Me products, where with every RM10 spent on Follow Me products, RM1 will be donated to the Follow Me Buy & Donate Campaign fund. The funding will be used to help fund the household expenditure of the Rumah Caring Old Folks Home.

“We are indeed moved by the fact that despite of the funding issues and uncertainties that looms over the shelter; this has never been taken as an excuse to compromise on the love and care the old folks deserve. As a well-established home grown brand in Malaysia, we feel compelled to do our bit to contribute back to the society. I sincerely hope that this campaign would garner support from the public and together we can help raise funds to provide better nursing, health and logistic care to the old folks and disabilities here in Rumah Caring Kajang,” said Jessky Hah, Product Manager of Follow Me.

The public who would like to support this campaign can head to any Tesco retail outlets in Malaysia to purchase their preferred Follow Me products. Follow Me products ranged from haircare, skincare to body care. Its a great cause to support and all you need to do is to buy the necessities that you need at home. A small favour goes a long way to some people, and what better way than to end the year with a good deed right? I know i'll be supporting the campaign, it may not be much but its a small contribution that might make someones day.

The Big Sister Project ; Charity Program

I've been eager to write about this small project which i still remember very clearly that one day, after a Butterfly Project event, Tammy, Anis and i decided to go for early dinner. And out of our random conversations, it came up this. I can believe that from a small sharing session ended up to become a reality! Since Tammy was really packed with her schedule throughout the year, she appointed me as the head of the project which i thought i couldnt manage. But with lots of hard work with the team, we made this day happen, thanks to FoodPanda and UBER who contributed a big part of the project.

Just a brief idea on what is the Big Sister Project is all about, its basically The Butterfly's Project first ever charity program which we decided that as bloggers, we have a part to offer to the community. With bloggers being called as influencers, its really important that we show a good example to our readers too right? What makes this project special is that instead of buying gifts and giving gifts that are unwanted to a chosen orphanage, the idea was to bring the kids out to let them pick out their own gift, since chances like these for them are very minimal. And as bloggers, we are like big sisters (and brothers) to them of showing a good example. And guess which lucky orphanage got chosen? Rumah Chrestus, which has about 20 kids in a small corner hourse in Cheras.

A big thanks to UBER for sponsoring the kids a return ride to and from One Utama. It was a really long journey for them since they're coming all the way from Cheras to Damansara Utama. Thats about 40 minutes drive man! It was definitely a different experience for them since they're getting proper professional drivers to transport them from one place to another. One of the UBER drivers were driving a Mercedes which also got the kids really excited too! hehe. As they arrived, each kid was given a name tag so that the 'big sisters' would know who they are in charge of.

The kids behaved really well and i can tell from their faces that they were really excited on getting themselves toys for christmas! Shireen was really cute for teasing them by saying that they were only allowed to look at the toys, and that they wont get to bring the toys back home. HAHA. Silly Shireen! We had a small ice breaking session with the kids and the bloggers, and each blogger were assigned to a child to be responsible of.

Some were really shy at first and the youngest among the group was about only 4 years old and the oldest was about 17 years old. But either way, knowing that bloggers are good at breaking the ice, i assume that the kids could really get along with their assigned 'big sister' and 'big brother' so that we can proceed with the program.

FoodPanda was so generous to spend RM200 per child as their christmas presents and each child could actually pick as much presents as they want accumulating up to RM200. I managed to take a few shots of the kids, and i think it was really therapeutic to see the smiles of the kids getting the presents and toys that they want.

To the people who made it happen, Foodpanda has played a huge part in giving back to the kids to end their 2015. Not only that they sponsored RM200 per child, but also sponsored over 40 attendees to eat at TGIF too! On a side note, Hamleys even threw it extra gifts for the kids where the boys got a toy car and the girls got a barbie doll to play with. How sweet were they? Thank you so much Hamleys!

Food Panda has a little surprise! 

If you think it ends there, FoodPanda even had more surprises for the little kids by giving them plush panda's! hehe. Even i got one for myself too, and its just too adorable! Some of the kids got to dine for free thanks to the manager of TGIF for informing us that kids under 12 could eat for free. And the rest got to decide on what they wanted to eat.

I believe that almost all of us mutually felt really good about the way we ended the year by spending some time with the very special kids who got a treat to end the year with presents to bring back home. I would like to personally again thank Food Panda, UBER Malaysia, TGIF, Hamleys and the volunteers for making their time to make this project happen. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! As head of the project, i think i learned a lot about hunting for the right orphanage.

I cant wait for the future charity projects which i will plan to lead one day, and of course, THANK YOU Tammy and the Butterfly Project for making this a heartwarming event. It was more than what i could ever ask for, and i'll be looking forward to contribute to more events like these in the future.

My First High Heel Dash in Malaysia Experience

If you're on my social networks, I'm pretty sure that you would know that i was one of the runners for the high heel dash and let me tell you that it was an amazing experience. Its not very common to have any race in heels and at the same time, it pretty much test your time on how fast can you run in heels. (for occasions when I'm late for events or late for work) HAHA. Just in case, you'll never know right.

Let me tell you a thing or two about the occasion. The race is a modern woman race in high heels, and in order to get to the top, women would constantly be on the run but at the same time, never failing to be stylish. This happens to be the FIRST High Heel Dash in Malaysia initiated by Bloc 48 in support of women empowerment for all ladies who want to shatter the glass ceiling. It was held in Publika Square, and what better way would it be by having a chic all-day event that brings together dasher to run 50m for a good cause? 

At the event, there was live entertainment, great food (healthy too), fabulous women-centric businesses and activities, plus amazing prizes in store to make this a dashing affair. While waiting for my turn to run, i had some time to get my hair done by L'oreal who happens to be there, supporting the charitable event. Therefore, i hope that explains why my hair was so glam on stage to receive my award. With L'oreal, it pretty much proves that even after running for a few times, and with all that amount of sweat you're sweating, at the end of the day, it still keeps you looking great! haha.

To all the participants, we were able to get a bottle of smooshie for FREE. And it was yums.

And of course, when it was my turn to run, i was really nervous i must say. There were 4 groups in total who needed to run and each group will have to run in a total of 3 times, with a distance of 50m for each round to see if they qualify for the finals. The reason why 3 times, was because they needed to record the best timing and see who deserves to be in the finals. Didn't think i would be in the finals, but guess what, when the finalist results were out, apparently i had one of the best timings! Now that was shocking to mentally know that you're so close to win the grand prize of a return flight to and from London sponsored by MAS. Here's a photo of how the race track looks like, it was very much challenging to run around the curb.

This event does not only help support women empowerment, but also benefit The Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) in their effort to provide a safe shelter for female vicious of abuse. So, yes, to be a part of this event, you would need to pay a fee of RM150 which a percentage of it would go to the WAO which i think was fair. For a good cause, and if you don't win, you would still get a goodie bag worth over RM500 for just participating. So yes, it was finally the moment of truth. The final run was recorded, and here's the video of it. HAHA. and if you're wondering, I'm the runner on the 1st lane. 

And from the photos, I'm pretty sure that you can tell that i won in First Runner Up under Category A  (18 years -30 years). And to be honest, i didn't think i would get a medal and a trip to Seoul, Korea as i was only aware that the Grand Prize was return tickets to fly to London for 2 and the Second Prize would be return tickets to fly to Phuket for 2. But to my surprise, there are also giving prizes to the Top 3 winners for each category. And i am thankful :) I made a lot of new friends since i came alone, and i thank my other blogger friends for wishing me luck during the run. Teehee. And of course, if you're dying to know what we got in our goodie bag, here are the things that was in the bag which they were tons of vouchers, a scarf, a magazine and some MAS merchandises. Woop woop. Can't wait to discover new products and go have meals for my vouchers. But to be honest, I'm not exactly the best person to keep updated with my vouchers. HAHA. Oh well, we'll see what i can do with them soon.

It was a really fun experience and i would be looking forward to the next High Heel Dash in 2016. Great job and i hope you made enough funds for the WAO.
