To kick off the launching ceremony, we had International beauty specialist Ms. Margaret Beales, who shared valuable insights on Skeyndor's skincare regimes, and we were really lucky to witness a demonstration of how to apply the Eternal range for optimal effectiveness. Ms Margaret did also highlight that for best results, you need to combine good ingredients with proper technique to achieve impressive results.

Awards were presented to Unique Aesthetics Sdn Bhd, recognizing it as the Top Leading Trusted Company For Professional Brand 2023/2024. The Skeyndor Eternal Series received the New Successful Product Innovation of The Year 2023/2024, while La Skinz Beauty Centre earned Editor’s Best Choice 2023/2024 and The Best Service of Beauty Salon 2023/2024 awards.

Sunplay's 'We Care for the Ocean 2023': A Wave of Success in Combating Beach Pollution

In a resounding triumph against beach pollution, Sunplay, Malaysia's go-to sunscreen brand, proudly announced the successful conclusion of its third annual CSR initiative, 'We Care for the Ocean 2023.' This year's campaign, conducted in collaboration with Watsons, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), and climate action advocate Melissa Tan, has left an indelible impact on seven key locations across Malaysia.

Sunplay's General Manager, Lim Mei Yuen, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Partnering with Watsons, the MNS, and Melissa Tan has truly amplified our efforts and made this campaign an extraordinary success. We were able to fundraise RM40,000 throughout the month of November."

Beach Cleanup Achievements


The dedication of 256 volunteers during this year's campaign resulted in the removal of an impressive total of 1,490kg of trash, surpassing last year's tally of 1,348kg. Cleanup efforts spanned across seven beaches, each with its unique contribution to the cause:

Hada Labo | We Care For Nature for Tapir Conservation

Hada Labo, a brand renowned for its commitment to environmental conservation, has taken significant steps in furthering its dedication to Mother Nature. Building on the success of its ongoing 'We Care for Nature' initiative, which was initiated in 2020, the brand has proudly contributed to the planting of 3,150 trees for the past 4 years.

This year, Hada Labo and Watsons Malaysia and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) have formed an impressive collaboration to plant 750 trees, comprising of species such as Alangium Javanicum, Metualang, Antidesma ghaesembilla, Guncak, Xerospermum noronhianum, Rambutan Pacat, and a few others that are known to be preferred by tapirs. For the next three to five years, these trees are essential to the survival of the vital food source for the critically endangered Malayan tapirs.

This noble endeavor directly supports the Pusat Konservasi Hidupan Liar Sungai Dusun (PKHL Sungai Dusun). The trees planted trees will help to assist PERHILITAN Tapir conservation efforts and nourish tapirs that are in the PKHL Sungai Dusun.

In October 2023, Hada Labo demonstrated an even greater dedication to the cause. A donation of RM1 was made to the 'We Care for Nature' campaign fund for each bottle of their recently introduced Micellar Water sold. Penang Sportswear Brand Promotes Malaysians’ Active Lifestyles on Shopee Live

Earlier this year, Elgini Apparel Sdn Bhd (Elgini), a Penang-based sportswear brand, acquired a 30,000 square foot factory in Nibong Tebal to meet the growing demand for their affordable and high-quality sportswear. Elgini credited the strategic shift to online, with a particular emphasis on live streaming, as one of the key factors for their growing popularity in the local market.

Joining Shopee in November 2020, Elgini immediately started participating actively on the Shopee Live platform after recognising its potential to help sellers grow their online reach, build communities, and better engage with users in real-time. Elgini utilises the platform's tools and features, such as Shopee Coins, Shopee Live Games, and Live-exclusive Vouchers, to increase sales revenue, buyer engagement, and the number of followers.

One of Elgini's proudest achievements is their high rate of customer satisfaction, leading to a significant number of repeat buyers, and they boast 310 thousand followers with 4.9 star ratings from almost 500 thousand reviewers on Shopee.

In September, Elgini observed that their live streaming on Shopee contributed to almost half of their total sales. During the recent 10.10 campaign, their Shopee Live sales increased by 1.9 times compared to regular days, and they achieved a peak viewership that was 3.7 times higher than usual. Their primary target audience consists of Malay buyers, and Shopee Live serves as a direct link to this demographic.

During their live sessions, hosts wearing Elgini attire drive sales by interacting with customers in real-time and providing product education. They showcase a range of clothing items, including windbreakers, yoga pants, and best-selling tracksuits (more than 700 thousand sold), emphasising features that cater to the preferences of Malaysians, such as cooling, stretchy materials, and modest styles. These products are popular with Malaysians of all backgrounds, ages, and sizes, popular among riders and outdoor enthusiasts who engage in sports, hiking, jogging, aerobics, gym workouts, travel, or leisure at home.

These sessions run for two to three hours each throughout the day, with sellers going live for up to 14 hours daily to maximise reach. From their observation, their live stream sessions perform exceptionally well, particularly when they pin their stream at the top of the Shopee Live page and at night. Regular live streams also allow Elgini to forge deeper bonds with users, leading to the building of strong online communities and loyal customer bases.

Texas BBQ Barn | November Special 2023 BBQ Ribs with Mac & Cheese

Hello guys! Finally found another joint to enjoy ribs within Selangor and it's definitely worth a review to write on. My mother in law actually stays in Cyberjaya, so we decided to explore the eateries in Cyberjaya which then we stumbled upon Texas BBQ Barn which looked interesting as we were passing by. Best of all, it's Muslim owned by a Malaysian! What a great way to support the local businesses in town. 

Now, in todays post, I'll be sharing a review of the November Specials from Texas BBQ Barn in their Cyberjaya outlet. For your information, they change their menu specials every month, and for the month of November, they're featuring the BBQ Ribs with Mac & Cheese which is great for sharing. Since I was with my husband and kids, this was the perfect platter to order for our small family, 

The service was extremely efficient, which also means the waiting time wasn't that long. But maybe also it's because we visited on a weekday, making it very convenient for them to attend to us, Despite the short waiting time, while we were ordering, they were nice enough to let the kids play with some crayons and paper, so that they can draw while we ordered our dish in peace. Love the family friendly service here.

Within minutes, our platter arrived and as a first impression, I would say that the portion was plenty despite it being a couples menu. Honestly, I would say the highlight of it all was this big slab of ribs that was slow cooked at 16-18 hours at least to get it prepared. Since it came with Mac & Cheese, this made it perfect for the little kids to enjoy. My kids definitely enjoyed their Mac & Cheese as it wasn't over seasoned, and it tasted like cheesy goodness without being salty. It also came with sides of Cheesy Chips which I enjoyed indulging as it added interesting textures to enjoy. 


Now, let's jump into the food review. I started off with the ribs and Im not going to lie, I love that it's not over seasoned and it tasted really good and tender. In terms of taste, it had this good ol Smoked flavour, and it was so unbelievable that I was told that the seasoning was mainly just salt and black pepper. Literally mind blowing but it's also no wonder that I could really taste the juice from the meat itself. The ribs were literally the kind that Fall-off-the-bone perfection! 

The sides came with Mac & Cheese, Nachos and pickles which was a favourite for the kiddos. The Mac & Cheese was the classic cheesy goodness which just lingers around your taste buds, and the nachos and pickles added an interesting texture and sourness if you're creative in enjoying it with your ribs. The pickles was also a great palate cleanser which enhanced the experience of enjoying the ribs with different sauces.

The drinks were something different, especially for the sunset one which tasted like a blend of strawberry F&N with fresh orang juice. Different than the usual, but super refreshing! The set that we ordered came in with the Teas Sweet tea and that was one of the best parts considering that we didnt need to top up our order with extra drinks. 


This being my first time actually making my way to Texas BBQ Barn, I would say that I cant wait to repeat. The highlight was definitely that they had ready set meals thats catered for couples and even for families of four. Be sure to check their monthly specials to plan your week ahead and enjoy their lovely combinations to pair with the Smoked Beef Rib. Well thats all for now and I cant wait to re-visit to get the real taste of Texas Ribs only ate Texas BBQ Barn.

A little fun fact, Texas BBQ Barn is ruined by a Malay couple, Encik Fazal & Shermeen who used to live in Texas working in an engineering company that was based in Texas. They came back to settle down in Malaysia, as they missed the Malaysian essence and decided to bring a part of Texas back to Malaysia to share the flavours of Texas. It began as a home business as they catered to neighbours and family members which then grew in demand with the public asking for more. With that being said, now Texas BBQ Barn produces over 800kg of ribs daily to cater to F&B businesses within Malaysia.

Managing Rare Diseases Through A Multidisciplinary Approach

Does the term "Neurofibromatosis Type 1" (NF1) bring back any memories? Although NF1 is regarded as a rare disease, more Malaysians than we realise are afflicted. NF1 is an autosomal dominant genetic condition that has a 50:50 chance of being passed down from one's parents or developing due to a spontaneous mutation in the NF1 gene. The multisystem disorder NF1 is characterised by the growth of tumours on nerve tissue, changes in skin pigmentation, and other potential side effects that may affect different bodily systems. 

Children can develop the disease at a young age, with NF1 being diagnosed in 1 in 3,000 children worldwide, according to estimates. It can be difficult for parents to recognise the beginning of the disease in their child because the early symptoms can include light-brown spots (café au lait macules) on the skin or bumps developed either on or under the skin (neurofibromas), with a risk of developing optic glioma later in life. 

Plexiform neurofibromas (PNs), the majority of which are present at birth, may be experienced by 30%–50% of NF1 patients. PNs can severely impair growth and function and cause severe disfigurement. Because other symptoms of NF1 include tumours that develop on the nerves, causing visible bumps that may attract unwanted attention in public, patients often also experience a significant psychosocial burden.

Due to the significance of the topic, a group of experts including Professor Dr. Thong Meow Keong, Consultant Clinical Geneticist, Department of Paediatrics, University of Malaya Medical Centre, Dr. Ngu Lock Hock, Head of Department, Department of Genetics, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Azrul Mohd Khalib, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy, and Puan Nadiah Hanim binti Abdul Latif, President of Malaysian Rare 

"Removing barriers to awareness is an essential step to improving understanding of NF1 not just with the public but also among healthcare practitioners," said Dr. Ngu Lock Hock, Head of Department, Department of Genetics, Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Ideally, we can accomplish this by incorporating information about rare diseases into medical curricula and raising awareness through social media. In the field of rare diseases, collaboration with patient support organisations is essential for launching funding and policy changes.

"NF1 is a disease that requires input from various medical teams, including neurologists, geneticists, hemato-oncologists, surgeons, and other experts from various disciplines," said Professor Dr. Thong Meow Keong, Consultant Clinical Geneticist, Department of Paediatrics, University Malaya Medical Centre, in a speech at the event. Because of this, managing NF1 through a multidisciplinary approach is a necessary step forward.

Azrul Mohd Khalib, the founder and CEO of the Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy, endorsed the call for policy change and believed that in order to improve patient health, policy changes that encourage an ecosystem approach to managing rare diseases and gaining access to treatment are required.

Rare diseases frequently go unnoticed, which results in a lack of crucial information in the public domain for the patient to cope, according to Puan Nadiah Hanim binti Abdul Latif, President of the Malaysian Rare Disorders Society (MRDS). Our motivation for raising awareness of NF1 stems from our desire to assist people in learning about the condition, seeking a diagnosis, and ultimately receiving treatment. 

At the forum, a new microsite with the title Let's Now Figure 1 was unveiled in an effort to raise public awareness of NF1. The new microsite, which is sponsored by AstraZeneca, acts as a resource centre, providing details on NF1's symptoms, diagnostic techniques, and management strategies.

The latest thematic series of the SAFE STEPS Kids programme, SAFE STEPS Kids Climate Change, has been introduced by Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential plc. The new series aims to educate kids about climate change and easy steps they can take to make the planet healthier and safer by using well-known cartoon characters like We Bare Bears and Gumball. The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) will roll out the programme in Malaysia. It was created in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Warner Bros. Discovery's Cartoon Network.

The series was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Yang Berhormat (YB) Tuan Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change and Marc Fancy, Executive Director of Prudence Foundation.

Climate change is an existential issue for both the present and future generations, according to YB Tuan Nik Nazmi, who spoke at the launch event. In order to address its effects, the world will need the enthusiasm and energy of the young. We are happy to announce this joint initiative that will inform and equip our youth to address and address this global challenge by incorporating easy but effective actions into their daily lives.

The goal of the Prudence Foundation is to improve the lives of disadvantaged groups in Prudential's markets in Asia and Africa by enhancing their safety and risk tolerance. The Foundation's primary area of focus is climate adaptation, where programmes are created to shield families, communities, and economies from the effects of climate change.

"Climate change affects all facets of society, particularly the most vulnerable groups and children," said Marc Fancy. In order to help children develop a sense of responsibility and an understanding of the world around them, as well as how climate change will affect them throughout their lives, we believe that teaching children about our climate and protecting our environment from a young age is extremely important.

"Cartoons are a powerful tool for expressing empathy and comprehension. While they are amusing to watch, they also have a significant impact on children's opinions, habits, and influences. We hope to be able to educate and empower the younger generation through the SAFE STEPS Kids programme so they can make significant contributions to the fight against climate change.

Through Cartoon Network in Asia, SAFE STEPS Kids reaches more than 20 million homes every day. Prior themes have included first aid, health, road safety, and natural disasters since the campaign's launch in 2019.

Showcase SDSI Sarawak Region | Boost promotion for local entrepreneurs

The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) has launched the Showcase One District One Industry (SDSI) Sarawak Region 2023 initiative to build a diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem that includes local business owners. Additionally, it offers a platform for commercialization through the display and sale of goods bearing a district's logo.

As the nation's economy now enters a phase of recovery, KUSKOP is dedicated to maintaining this programme as a catalyst for enhancing the perception of SDSI's goods and services. A sales exhibition, entrepreneur classes, and a Halal Certification Workshop are just a few of the day's events.

SDSI Sarawak offers a variety of incentives to entrepreneurs in the interim, as well as displays of goods bought and sold locally. Entrepreneurs who attend can consult with seasoned industry players and receive funding for halal certification.

Visitors can take part in raffles and watch performances by Sarawak cultural groups. Through the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), which is expected to act as a catalyst to improve the image of SDSI's products and services in addition to bringing awareness that SDSI's products have potential and quality, the State Government also strategically collaborates with the organisation of the SDSI Showcase 2023 Sarawak.

The SDSI products in question include handicraft items, sponge sugar products, honey-based beauty products, and Sarawak layer cakes. The second venue after the first, which was held at the Middle Zone Stage at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur from July 7 to 9, is Showcase SDSI 2023 Sarawak.

The Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh, Melaka, will host the SDSI 2023 Showcase at the National level from October 6–8, 2023. The following will take place in Sabah Regional Level and North Zone in Perak in November and December of 2023, respectively. The SDSI Sarawak level will be open to the public from September 29 to October 1 from 10 am to 10 pm at Plaza Merdeka in Kuching, Sarawak.
