Peranakan & BBQ Buffet Dinner at Ames Hotel | FOOD REVIEW

Hi guys! I had the opportunity to dine in at Peranakan & BBQ Buffet Dinner while I was staying at Ames Hotel in Melaka recently. If you happen to be traveling to Melaka, and you’d want to explore the safari and nature tourism that Melaka has to offer, then Ames Hotel is a good hotel to stay in. But enough about that, this post is going to be all about FOOD! Because there are so many flavors that I’d like to remember.

The Peranakan & BBQ Buffet Dinner at their in-house restaurant, the munch, in Ames Hotel is a seasonal dinner buffet that will be available from 30th September 2022 to 22nd October 2022. But take note that it's only available every Friday and Saturday from 6.30pm to 10.00pm. It’s priced at RM98 net per adult and RM60 net for children and senior citizens.

Hot & Spicy Soup

ABC Soup

Led by Executive Chef Ramu Suppiah and his team of chefs, they have created a menu that has a decent variety of soup, appetizers, hot dishes, and mouthwatering desserts! To start and get your appetite going, they have the Hot & Spicy Seafood & ABC Chicken Soup accompanied with an assortment of bread. Since i had a 1yo baby with me, he was so happy to indulge in the ABC Chicken Soup, so I would happily say that it's a baby-pleaser soup if you have smaller kids going on a trip with you.

If you're into fruits, then you’d definitely enjoy the rojak buah which you can customize according to your preferred fruits. Alternatively, I think I loved the fact that they have included Kerabu Pomelo into the spread and it just hits all the right spots in making sure my mouth would experience the sensation of flavors at the salad counter.

Look forward to the seafood bar as you can feast on chilled prawns and mussels! Around the corner, you can find the BBQ grill offering you some mouthwatering Portuguese Marinated Chicken Drumstick, Portuguese Grilled Fish, and Squids. Here I enjoyed the drumstick and squid the most! It had just the right amount of balance when it comes to spices. Who needs to go to Portuguese when you can get a taste of it at Ames Hotel's The Munch Restaurant.

Now, the highlight of the night would obviously be the main courses! You can look forward to Nyonya Style Fried Rice, Udang Masak Lemak Nenas, Ayam Pongteh, Daging Rendang Nyonya, Acar Awal, Kupang Goreng Chili Bawang, Ikan Siakap Chili Garam, Kailan dan Bawang Putih and Chicken Lasagna. It was really a lot to choose from, but if you're overwhelmed, I really enjoyed the Daging Rendang Nyonya, Ikan Siakap Chili Garam, and the Ayam Pongteh. It really tastes like authentic nyonya, and I can't lie that I had seconds on it just because it was so good!

Oh, did I mention that they also have live cooking stations as well? If you enjoy your food being hot and fresh from the stove, they'll be able to whip you up some Nyonya Laksa with Udang Galah, Chicken Lobak, and Otak Roll. The lobak and otak were definitely different than usual, so I would highly recommend you to get a bite of it while you're there.

What's a meal without desserts? Look forward to plenty of desserts at the dessert bar, but if you're looking for the full-on Nyonya experience, then indulge in the Nyonya Pineapple Tarts, Bubur Cha Cha, Cendol, Sago Bunga Telang, and Hot Chocolate Pudding. The kids will enjoy the dessert bar the most, but personally what I love about the whole dessert range would be that there is a controlled level of sweetness. It somehow tasted less sweet to not overwhelm your main course. Just the way I like it.

All in all, I would say the experience was satisfying! At RM98 nett per adult and RM60 nett for Childen & Senior Citizen, I personally would say that it was worth it. They had a decent spread of options and the menu was very authentic. You'll also get a taste of everything when it comes to Peranakan and BBQ food to hit your stomach in all the right spots.
