BMW Malaysia previews the All-New BMW X5 and the New BMW X2 M35i


The All-New BMW X5
BMW Malaysia today unveiled two new additions to the BMW X Series: The All-New BMW X5 and the New BMW X2 M35i. The Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV) and SAC are equipped with more powerful engines and a distinctive design language to elevate the Sheer Driving Pleasure of driving a BMW. The fourth generation of The Boss and the most powerful Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) with M Performance.

Mr. Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The performance of the BMW X portfolio in Malaysia has been nothing short of remarkable. Last year, we successfully delivered more than 5,000 units of BMW X vehicles, resulting in a significant double-digit growth of 19%. In the first four months of this year alone, the delivery of over 1,500 BMW X vehicles demonstrates the demand for our Sports Activity Vehicles andSports Activity Coupe. We are committed to fulfilling that increasing demand with the All-New BMW X5 and the New BMW X2 M35i, and once again set a new benchmark for the premium SAV & SAC segment.”

Hoelzl added, “As the pioneer of the BMW X family, the BMW X5 delivered more than 2.2 million units across its three model generations, making it the best-selling SAV worldwide. This worldwide success is also reflected here in Malaysia as the BMW X5 is a key contributor to BMW Group Malaysia’s performance year on year. On the other hand, its sportier sibling, the BMW X2 has delivered close to 100 units since its introduction last April.”

Having established the SAV segment in 1999, the BMW X5 continues to be the most successful BMW X model and the best-selling SAV worldwide. The All-New BMW X5 adds another chapter to this success story. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-range model of the most powerful compact SAC, the BMW X2 M35i, now delivers even moredynamic handling characteristics and an exciting design for to impress at first sight.

The All-New BMW X5 has grown in all dimensions compared to its predecessor while staying true to its iconic character and proportions. The exterior design language now packs a more athletic punch and is complemented by clean precise lines and clearly defined surfaces.

The large kidney grille
The sculpted bonnet of the All-New BMW X5 conveys a muscular appearance, and the front overhang is now shorter than before. Taking centre stage is a large kidney grille that is sophisticatedly framed by a single surround, giving the vehicle a stronger frontal appearance. The new Adaptive LED headlights are slim and wrap around into the front wings of the vehicle. With the M Sport package, the All-New BMW X5 also features 20-inch light alloy wheels and M Sport brakes with fixed callipers in a dark blue paint finish with the BMW M logo.

At the rear, the All-New BMW X5 features stunning new three-dimensional wrap-around LED taillights. The large, rectangular tailpipes affixed also project an image of formidable power familiar to the BMW X Series.

Front seat interior
The All-New BMW X5 also features an all-round growth in dimensions, lending to its excellent manoeuvrability and maximised comfort. The length of the All-New BMW X5 has now increased by 36mm to 4,922mm with an increase in width by 66mm to 2,004mm. It now features a higher roofline as well at 1,745mm, a 19mm step up from its predecessor. The wheelbase also increased by 42mm and now measures 2,975mm. It also provides a more spacious luggage compartment from 650 litres up to 1,870 litres.

A powerful, fuel-efficient three-litre six-cylinder petrol engine powers the All-New BMW X5. It can generate a top speed of 243km/h with a maximum output of 250kW/340hp and a peak torque of 450Nm. The All-New BMW X5 can go from 0-100km/h in only 5.5 seconds. Its fuel-efficiency is demonstrated by its significantly lowered fuel-consumption of 9.2 l/100km of travel with carbon emission of 211/km.

The formidable engine is complemented by a revised eight-speed Steptronic transmission with enhanced shift dynamics. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via xDrive. Equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, five-link rear suspension and Adaptive M Suspension, the chassis of the All-New BMW X5 can be specifically configured to maximise its dynamic ability or comfort. As expected from BMW, the All-New BMW X5’s suspension is tuned to provide Sheer Driving Pleasure with maximum agility provided by the Sports mode and performance personalisation by the Driving Experience Control.

The interior of the All-New BMW X5 bears the M Sport DNA. It features the exclusive M leather steering wheel with shift paddles and the M stainless steel pedals. The door sill finishers with the M logo exudes a sporty yet elegant appeal. Another striking characteristic of the All-New BMW X5’s design language is the special electroplated finishing that adds an electrifying touch of luxury to the interior. It also combines comprehensive standard equipment such as the electrically adjustable sport seats with Vernasca Leather upholstery and the ambient lighting complete with the Welcome Carpet.

The all-new SAV also conveys a great sense of luxury and comfort with four-zone air conditioning, Rear Seat Entertainment Professional and the Panorama glass roof which makes for a brighter interior. The transparent area of the glass roof has been increased by 30%. The cargo cover can now be electrically retracted into the luggage compartment floor, and with the Comfort Access, both parts of the two-piece tailgate can also be opened and closed electrically at the convenient touch of a button.

A stand-out feature of the All-New BMW X5’s interior is the now-standard new BMW Live Cockpit Professional with Navigation Professional powered by the new BMW Operating System 7.0. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional combines the 12.3-inch Information Display with an equally large central Control Display featuring touchscreen function and an advanced user interface. The Info Display projects navigational content, the vehicle’s position and any relevant traffic information ahead. Together with the New BMW Head-up Display, now with a 70% larger display area compared to the predecessor, all important information can be viewed comfortably at eye-level. The intelligent integration of navigational data into the Info Display allows the Control Display to focus on more infotainment and vehicle functions. The BMW Operating System 7.0 in the Control Display also prioritises intuitive touch control for the first time.

An expanded range of driver assistance systems is ever ready to further the direction of automated driving for the all-new SAV. The latest BMW Personal CoPilot includes a cruise control system with braking function, Lane Departure Warning with steering intervention, Frontal Collision Warning with braking intervention that also now responds to cyclists on the road, rear cross traffic warning and rear collision prevention. 

Equipped with intelligent Park Assist
Furthermore, the All-New BMW X5 is equipped with the intelligent Park Assist that is capable of manoeuvring in and out of parallel and perpendicular parking spaces. The new Reversing Assist also provides an unmatched form of support when manoeuvring out of a parking spot and operating in tight spaces. The system also keeps a record of the last 50 metres of the drive to the parking space and will assist with exiting the space by taking over the steering.

The BMW ConnectedDrive service is extended to include the BMW Digital Key for the All-New BMW X5, making it easier to unlock and start the vehicle without the use of a conventional key. All it requires is an Android smartphone, with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, held close to the driver’s door handle to easily unlock the vehicle. The engine can also be started by placing the smartphone in the centre console’s charging tray. The BMW Digital Key can be used for up to five additional smartphones to make sharing the All-New BMW X5 more convenient than ever.

Comes in Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Artic Grey and Phytonic Blue
Colour offerings for the All-New BMW X5 include Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Artic Grey and Phytonic Blue. The Vernasca Leather upholstery is available in the classic Black with Aluminium Tetragon for Mineral White and Black Sapphire. The option of Vernasca Leather Coffee with Fineline Stripe Wood is available for both the Artic Grey and Phytonic Blue, while the Vernasca Leather Cognac with Fineline Stripe Wood is exclusively available for Mineral White only.

The New BMW X2 M35i checks all the boxes for extreme athleticism, dynamic driving performance and pure confidence on the road. The M Performance SAC is even more assured on the asphalt thanks to its sharpened design and powerful proportions.

The redesigned sporty identity of the New BMW X2 M35i is reflected in its numerous M Performance elements. At first glance, the sporty SAV immediately astounds with a sleek double kidney grille in Cerium Grey. In addition to that are the newly redesigned side air inlets positioned at the front for maximum brakes and engine cooling efficiency. The exterior mirrors have also been upgraded to special Cerium Grey caps.

M Sport exhaust system 
At the rear, the New BMW X2 M35i boasts a distinctive M rear spoiler and demonstrates its supremacy with an M Sport exhaust system with two 100mm-diameter tailpipes. Thanks to the adapted silencer system, the M Performance exhaust system produces a particularly sporty sound spectrum. 20-inch M Sport light alloy wheels in 721M styling and in Cerium Grey bicolour impressively round off the exterior design features.

Speed of the New BMW M35i
The New BMW X2 M35i is powered by BMW’s formidable 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine. The first-ever M Performance 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine sets a new benchmark above its predecessors as it generates a maximum power output of 225kW/306hp and a maximum torque of 450Nm. The top speed of the New BMW X2 M35i is at an impressive 250km/h, consuming 7.4 litres of fuel for every 100km of travel.

To ensure that this sheer power is securely transferred to the tarmac, the New BMW X2 M35i comes with the intelligent four-wheel drive technology, xDrive in conjunction with the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission including Launch Control, an acceleration aide for optimal traction and grip when accelerating upon start-up. The automatic transmission features specific M Performance tuning. As a result, the BMW X2 M35i can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Also, the thermal stability of the engine is now ensured by a redesigned cooling system.

The New BMW X2 M35i also features an M Sport suspension system that has been specifically tuned and adapted to match the car’s sporty character. A first for an M Performance vehicle is the M Sport Differential installed in the front axle gear that effectively reduces possible traction losses on the front wheels during highly dynamic driving manoeuvres. The newly upgraded M Sport braking system with fixed callipers in Dark Blue metallic and 18-inch steel discs at the front with 17-inch at the rear guarantees consistently short braking distances even under the highest loads.

Steering and suspension have both been adapted to match the performance of the drive system. With a special setup, drivers will enjoy an impressively direct and precise steering feel with the M sports steering. The new SAV also comes with the M Sport suspension with a stiffer spring and damper setting as well as vehicle lowering. The standard Parking Assistant and Rear View Camera is also equipped for a safer, more convenient drive.

The New BMW X2 M35i’s interior showcases its M Sport DNA with an exceptionally athletic look. The new SAC features the exclusive M Sport leather steering wheel with shift paddles, interior trim finishers in Aluminium Hexagon Anthracite and door entry trims at the front boldly bearing the “M35i” designation. For the first time ever, the exclusive M sportsseats at the front are provided to ensure absolute comfort. The Dakota Leather-upholstered M sport seats offer not only perfect lateral support for both driver and front passenger at sharp bends, but also the highest level of comfort and safety through integrated headrests. Music can be enjoyed via the Harman Kardon 12-Speaker sound system while the Navigation Plus with an 8.8-inch touch sensitive control display provide seamless navigational content.

Colour offerings for the New BMW X2 M35i include Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Galvanic Gold, Misano Blue and Sunset Orange. Inside, owners have a choice of Black Dakota leather upholstery with Black perforations or Magma Red with Grey-Highlighted perforations. The All-New BMW X5 and the New BMW X2 M35i will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide at the BMW X Crew event taking place on the weekend of the 21stto the 23rdof June 2019.
